About Mele's Diner
Our Chef Jorge Melendres has been working as a cook since he was 16 years old. He started working in the kitchen of an Italian restaurant in Los Angeles CA. After 2 years, he changed jobs and started working at a Mexican Restaurant where the head chef took him under his wings and showed him how to cook Tex-Mex and traditional Mexican dishes. In 1998 he helped start a new Mexican Restaurant in the South Bay, his dishes, recipes and cooking talent helped that restaurant become what is now, a successful Mexican food chain in California. In 2016 he and his family relocated to Evansville, still working in the food industry for two years, but always wanted to pursue his dream of owning his own restaurant. With a blessing from God, in March of 2019 Mele’s Diner opened its doors. Offering delicious Mexican food and American dishes, as well as breakfast all day. You will find all our dishes are cooked to order using only fresh products, Jorge’s motto is to serve our guests what he would serve his own family. People often ask who is Mele or where did the name come from? well, it is simple, Mele is just short for Melendres.
